Kelleher Trip to Egypt and Jordan May 2024

Off to Wadi Rum [Updated]

Monday, May 27

My enthusiasm for adventure is waning, but 2 days of touring left before our 2AM departure from Amman to Paris on Wednesday morning. I’m muddled on the timing, but we have a long lay-over in Paris and still get home on Wednesday. Whatever it takes, I am ready to swap Florida heat for Jordanian and Egyptian heat.

Today are driving 2 hours south to Valley of the Moon, Wadi Rum, where one of my favorite films was made (or at least parts of it) – The Martian starring Matt Damon. I love the scene where he crushes up Xanax and dips his potato in it just because he can. I would eat that for dinner tonight. Not filmed in Wadi Rum, but also among my favorites, are Damon’s Bourne movies.

Happy Camels eating watermelon in this area where there is an aquifer for irrigation. On the way to Wadi Rum.

This afternoon we will take a jeep tour which promises to be hot and dusty. We will run across “Lawrence’s’ Spring” made famous in Lawrence of Arabia which was also filmed here.

Will sign off for now. We have wifi in the van, but will have none at the camp.

Update: there is some wifi at the camp so here are some photo’s of our venture to the desert.
