Suggested viewing in preparation for your trip to Egypt (or just to enjoy a lovely movie if you are not planning a trip) is the star-studded 1978 version of this classic:
Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot
Angela Lansbury as Solome Otterbourne
Bette Davis as Mrs. Van Schuyler
Dame Maggie Smith as Mrs. Bowers
David Niven as Colonel Race
Mia Farrow as Jacqueline DeBelleforte
Olivia Hussey as Rosalie Otterbourne
George Kennedy as Andrew Pennington
This movie was nominated for 4 Academy Awards and won for best costume design.
Death on the Nile was remade in 2022 and is much less true to the book. Not a bad movie, but Agatha may even have difficulty following her story in this version. The 2022 version also has some stars:
Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot
Gail Gadot as Linnet Ridgeway
Armie Hammer as Simon Doyle
Annette Bening as Euphemia
Russell Brand as Linus Windlesham
Although Agatha Christie is known to have stayed at the Winter Palace in Luxor, it seems she wrote the book mainly at the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan.
Enjoy!
